Only a short 1 1/2 hr away in Gainesville, and so much to see and do.
From EU Jacksonville:
The festival highlights the rich cultures and traditions of the Asian continent and provides a platform for the Asian community to showcase its heritage. With five stages of entertainment plus a Pan-Asian food court and retail area, the Heart of Florida Asian Festival has something for everyone to enjoy. This year, the festival features internationally known Chinese acrobats, Indian Bhangara dancers, Japanese martial artists, Philippine folk dancers and the beautiful Korean salp'uri performed in traditional dress. Food choices range from sushi to Indian curries to Singapore noodles and Thai iced tea, but a visual feast ensues when local treasure Pam Maneeratana brings a sophisticated grace and delicacy to the food area as she shows artistic mastery of Asian fruit carving. Exhibitions range from Temples and Festivals: A Celebration of Indian Art from the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art Collection in the Main Gallery and Korean paper cutting in the Mezzanine Gallery to the indoor landscapes of the Bonsai Society. A koi exhibition is a centerpiece of the outdoor garden area and all to the backdrop of lovely Asian music indoors and out.

Oshogatsu - Japanese New Year at Morikami 1/9/11
Date:
Time: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Now in its 33rd year at the Morikami, Oshogatsu - the traditional New Year celebratory festival – is celebrated with games and entertainment throughout the museum and its gardens. The day’s activities will include Japan’s customary rice-pounding, making mochi rice cakes and a sado tea ceremony as well as kakizome, hands-on calligraphy; nengajo, New Year's card making and omikuji, fortune telling. Special appearances by shishimai, the lion dancer are sure to bring in good luck for the New Year!
The Japanese New Year is celebrated in accordance with the Japanese Zodiac, represented by 12 animals in a 12-year cycle. According to legend, Buddha invited all the animals to his kingdom, but only 12 showed up. Out of gratitude, Buddha named a year after each animal in the order of their arrival: mouse, ox/cow, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and boar. This year, we celebrate the Year of the Rabbit for those born in 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999 and 2011.
