Jacksonville Asian American Alliance (JAAA) College Scholarship

2012 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Program Overview:
The Jacksonville Asian American Alliance (JAAA) College Scholarship Program recognizes academic excellence, extracurricular activities and community involvement among high school seniors planning to pursue a baccalaureate degree at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States. This year, the program will choose four (4) scholars who will be awarded $500 each towards college costs.
Eligibility:
(1) Must be a resident of Duval, Clay, Nassau, Baker, and St. Johns Counties for at least six (6) months
(2) Must be a US legal resident
(3) Must be accepted at a four-year college or university (4) GPA of 3.5 or higher
(5) Must be of Asian descent
Requirements:
(1) Complete and submit Application Form
(2) Submit letter of acceptance to a four-year college or university
(3) Submit two letters of recommendation from individuals who are familiar with applicant’s character and achievement.
(4) Submit high school transcript and SAT or ACT scores
Deadline for Submitting Applications:
April 20, 2012 (must be postmarked 4/20/12)
Notification of Finalists:
May 4, 2012

The purpose of Jax India Fest is to foster cultural awareness of India and its people among the North-east Florida community. Jax India Fest has become a very popular event that attracts a large number of people from all walks of life to celebrate the rich Indian culture and heritage. In 2009, the first year of the event, about three thousand people came out to celebrate Jax India Fest. In 2010 we had turnout of over six thousand people and this year we expect the turnout to be more than eight thousand.
The event will have fifty-plus booths from a variety of regional Indian organizations and businesses that cater to the local population. The booths will be of authentic Indian cuisine, traditional Indian dresses, traditional Indian jewelry, and Indian art. In addition, traditional Indian folk and classical dances will be performed. The eve of the event will culminate in musical extravaganza, which will include the popular Garba, Bhangra and Bollywood music in which everyone participates.
